About MLJ
Hi, I’m Marianne, founder of My Language Journey.
I’m a bilingual French-English teacher based in Cambridge, UK.
My own language journey began in France as a child and eventually brought me to the UK, where I have now lived for nearly twenty years. Through my experiences as a language learner, university student, hospitality professional and now a teacher, I’ve come to appreciate that learning a language is about far more than vocabulary and grammar. It’s about communication, confidence, curiosity and building connections with other people.
After nearly twenty years living in the UK as a French speaker, I created MLJ to support adult learners in building confidence with English in everyday life.
My Language Journey is built around a simple idea:
Language learning is a journey, not a race.
There is no perfect learner, no perfect accent and no finish line where learning suddenly ends. Progress happens through curiosity, practice, mistakes and persistence.
My Approach
As both a language learner and a language teacher, I understand the challenges that come with learning another language.
Many adult learners know more English than they realise, but still struggle with confidence, fear of mistakes, or feeling judged when speaking.
My goal is to create learning resources that are practical, encouraging and accessible.
I believe language learning should help people communicate more confidently in real life, not simply pass tests or memorise rules.
Learning in the Age of AI
Technology is changing the way we learn.
Tools such as ChatGPT can offer new opportunities for practice, feedback and independent study.
At MLJ, I explore how modern tools can support language learning while keeping people, communication and human connection at the centre of the process.
AI can be a powerful learning companion, but learning itself remains deeply human.
Who MLJ Is For
MLJ is designed for adult English learners from a range of backgrounds, with particular understanding of the experience of French speakers learning English and adapting to life in the UK.
Whether you’re learning English for work, study, daily life or personal growth, you’re welcome here.
